Overview
Bench Jewelers are an essential part of Timmreck & McNicol Jewelers. In this role, you will perform all requested and necessary work on jewelry, including setting, sizing, soldering, welding, re-tipping, polishing, engraving, casting, cleaning, and other tasks consistent with our standards of quality, service, and timeliness.

Responsibilities

Bench & Repair Work

  • Evaluate and ensure the quality of merchandise and repair intakes. Provide accurate assessments of condition so the company can make appropriate decisions regarding repairs, restoration, or alternatives.
  • Complete repair work including (but not limited to): stone setting, sizing, re-tipping, soldering, welding, prong repair, polishing, and cleaning.
  • Provide accurate repair and customization estimates based on customer needs, design intent, and material requirements.
  • Maintain findings inventory and notify management when supplies are low.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace that reflects professionalism and safety.
  • Follow safety and security protocols regarding equipment, chemicals, torches, and tools.
  • Use computer systems (POS/repair tracking software) to track repairs, update notes, and follow intake and completion procedures.

Collaboration & Customer Support

  • Work professionally, courteously, and efficiently with the full Timmreck & McNicol team.
  • Communicate with sales staff and bench staff to ensure repairs, custom jobs, and timelines are clearly understood.
  • Consult directly with customers when appropriate (stone verification, repair feasibility, custom design considerations).
  • Support the store team with occasional customer service needs.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of bench jeweler experience required.
  • High visual acuity, strong manual dexterity, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple jobs simultaneously.
  • Comfort with basic computer skills for job tracking and communication.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Basic communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Basic math skills applicable to measurements, weights, and pricing.
  • Weekend availability is required. (Though, we are closed on five major holidays each year.)

Compensation

Base Pay Range: $25–$35 per hour, plus Geller Blue Book piecework bonuses, which typically range from $1,000 to $4,000 per month depending on workload, efficiency, and quality.

Starting pay is determined by:

  • Bench test performance
  • Previous work history and demonstrated craftsmanship
  • Interview performance
  • Overall skill set and technical proficiency

Most new hires begin at the lower end of the range, though highly skilled candidates with strong experience may start higher.

Tuesday–Saturday: 10AM–6:30PM
