S. Silverberg Finer Jewelers is seeking an experienced Goldsmith / Bench Jeweler to join our team in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

We are an established, independent fine jewelry store with a busy repair and custom department and are looking for someone who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and enjoys working as part of a close-knit team.

This is a full-time, in-house bench position. We are looking for a jeweler with at least one year of professional bench experience who is comfortable performing a wide variety of jewelry repairs and, most importantly, has solid stone-setting skills.

Responsibilities

The position will include:

  • Ring sizing and general jewelry repair
  • Soldering and torch work
  • Stone setting, including diamonds and colored gemstones
  • Prong rebuilding, retipping and stone tightening
  • Chain, bracelet and clasp repair
  • Jewelry restoration and alteration
  • Polishing, refinishing and final quality control
  • Working with gold, platinum and other precious metals
  • Diagnosing repairs and determining appropriate repair procedures
  • Organizing and managing an active repair queue
  • Maintaining high standards for workmanship and attention to detail
  • Communicating effectively with our sales and service team regarding repairs and customer expectations

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of professional bench jewelry experience
  • Strong stone-setting ability
  • Experience with torch soldering and traditional bench techniques
  • Ability to perform common jewelry repairs independently
  • Strong attention to detail and quality
  • Good organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple repairs and priorities
  • Dependable and consistent attendance
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team

Additional Skills That Are a Plus

These skills are welcomed but are not required:

  • Custom jewelry fabrication
  • CAD jewelry design
  • Advanced stone setting
  • Artistic/design ability
  • Watch repair or watch-related experience
  • Experience working with antique or estate jewelry

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation will be based on experience, skill level and the range of work the candidate is capable of performing. Expected starting compensation is approximately $20–$30+ per hour, with flexibility for a particularly experienced or highly skilled candidate.
