This is a sign that lives in our shop. We want our jewelers to take the proper amount of time that each job deserves. We pay a competitive hourly wage, not by how many stones you can set or rings you can size in an hour, but by the quality of what you do. All fine things take time.
Cross Jewelers, a family-owned Portland retailer is seeking a talented bench jeweler who can size rings, set stones both prong and bezel. Duties would also include cleaning, polishing, prepping, making sure the jewelry is truly “customer ready”.
When sizing a ring up, we use a dovetail joint. Few jewelers do dovetailing today. It takes a few minutes longer, the joint is stronger, the customer and piece of jewelry is served better. We’re prepared to teach dovetailing.
The nature of a small family business is that responsibilities can change as skills develop or needs arise so flexibility is an important quality.
Working with customers may or may not be a part of the job. This depends on your skill-set and comfort. At this time, we are closed to the retail public for safety and have been since March 2020. We sell online and by phone to a national clientele. Our workspaces are spread out for safety. While Covid-19 is still a concern, you’d be working safely distanced from others in our fully equipped basement workshop. When things return to normal, we have a workspace in our upstairs shop.

This is a full-time position, 40-hour workweek, Monday – Friday. 6-day week from Thanksgiving to Christmas when we’re open Saturdays.
