Straight from the Jeweler’s Security Alliance: Beware of a new scam targeting jewelers!

After an incident in early January at a chain jewelry store when someone made several calls to the store, claiming to be from the company’s alarm company, asking for the company’s alarm password, the JSA is asking jewelers to be wary of similar phone calls and to report them immediately. Luckily in this case, the password was never given out and it was discovered that the calls weren’t coming from the alarm company at all.

This kind of crime has not been heard of before, and since it is a non-crime, it is unlikely to be very seriously pursued by the police. Therefore, if something like this happens at your business, be sure to report it to JSA immediately and to never give your private information like security codes out to people you do not know.
