The Veterans Watchmaker Initiative in Delaware has been slowly expanding for the last 4 years and its first class of watchmakers is set to graduate soon. Sam Cannan, the founder of VWI, just received a $30,000 grant from M&T Bank that he plans to use to move a building next to the school to serve as a dormitory for the students. He’s also planning to expand the classroom space so he can accept more students from the 400 person waiting list that is steadily growing. Being one of only four watchmaking schools in the country has created a high demand of students looking to get into a program, and Sam Cannan offers that for veterans looking to learn a new trade at no cost to them. Looking down the road and seeing the excitement his work has created he would love to build a second location in Middletown.
