STONE SETTER/ BENCH JEWELER
Position Overview: The Stone Setter/ Bench Jeweler sets precious, semi-precious and ornamental stones in all types of settings; fabricates, assembles, and repairs jewelry.
Starting Hourly Rate: $19 – $23 based on experience
Responsibilities:
Stone Setter (60%):
•Sets stones in rings, earrings, bracelets and other jeweled items in a variety of settings, including pave, prong setting, channel settings, cathedral, etc.
•Positions stone in setting and fixes in place by pressing prongs around the stone, raising metal around the stone or by tapping edges of setting with setting tool and hammer.
•Examines union of stone and setting using magnifying glass.
•Accurate daily accounting and reporting of tasks, parts, and metal inventory.
•Ability to use laser and hand tools; vise, chisel, cutting and filing, preparatory drilling for stones.
•Maintain a clean, safe work area with reasonable maintenance of tools & equipment.
•Other duties as assigned
Bench Jeweler (40%):
•Fabricate, assemble and repair jewelry, including rings, pendants, bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
•Cuts, saws, files, solders and polishes article using hand tools and polishing wheel.
•Enlarges or reduces size of rings.
Knowledge and Skills:
•Minimum of 3-5 years experience in jewelry setting.
•Experience working with all types of metals (14k,18k, Platinum, Silver etc.)
•Experience in a manufacturing/production environment highly preferred.
•Be able to follow instructions and work from design, CAD or hand-drawn.
•Can train additional setters in techniques, proper tool usage and quality compliance expectations.
•Ability to sit for long periods of time, to concentrate and to be able to do repetitive work.
•Good verbal communication skills.
