GENERAL SUMMARY
At J. F. Kruse Jewelers, a Professional Bench Jeweler is responsible for servicing, repairing, maintaining, and creating all types of jewelry. With our three full-time jewelers, we utilize a team-oriented, non-commissioned approach to provide a full-service in-house jewelry repair and custom design experience. As such, our bench jewelers perform a wide range of duties, including soldering a break in gold chains, replacing missing gemstones in jewelry, restoring old or damaged jewelry, adjusting jewelry for size to customize it to a customer’s liking, and creating custom jewelry completely from scratch with precious gems and metals. We utilize sophisticated equipment, including laser welders, casting equipment, and 3-D printers. We provide extensive training and opportunities for growth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality ring sizing including appropriate use of materials
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality repair on all types of chains
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality re-tipping, including appropriate use of materials
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality prong replacement, including appropriate use of materials
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality channel repair and rebuilding
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality bezel repair and rebuilding
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality solder joints, including appropriate use of materials
•Demonstrate the understanding of the appropriate use of the laser welder
•Demonstrate the ability to properly operate the laser welder
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality laser weld
•Demonstrate the ability to unset stones without damage
•Demonstrate the ability to set diamonds of all shapes and sizes without damage
•Demonstrate the ability to set colored gems of all types, sizes and shapes without damage
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality pave setting
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality bead setting
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality bright cut setting
•Demonstrate the ability to produce quality castings
•Demonstrate the ability to fabricate an item of jewelry by hand, including proper use of materials and equipment
•Demonstrate the ability to produce a quality polish on an item of jewelry, including proper use of equipment and materials
•Demonstrate the ability to execute different finishes such as brush, Florentine and satin on an item of jewelry, including proper use of equipment
•Demonstrate the ability to execute quality stringing of pearls and other beads, including appropriate use of materials
•Actively participate in developing the knowledge and skill of team members to understand, appreciate and sell quality repair
•Be willing to demonstrate bench skills to team members to promote their understanding of the craft
•Provide training materials as needed to promote understanding of repair and manufacturing services
•Demonstrate the ability to organize tools and equipment on the jeweler’s bench
•Demonstrate the ability to maintain a neat, clean and organized work space
•Demonstrate the ability to organize materials and maintain an appropriate inventory of materials
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
•Professional Bench Jeweler experience preferred
•A minimum of three years of customer service experience; retail experience preferred
•Familiarity with computers preferred
