Job Summary
Clock repairers service, repair and maintain all kinds of clocks and watches. They work with both mechanical and electronic (quartz) timepieces that can include anything from antique clocks to high-tech watches with additional mechanisms like alarms, calendars and multiple displays.

Responsibilities

  • Dismantling, servicing and repairing watches and clocks using tools such as screwdrivers and tweezers.
  • Cleaning and oiling clock mechanisms.
  • Using an ultrasonic cleaning machine to clean parts from mechanical watches.
  • Using electronic testing equipment to find faults.
  • Replacing batteries and re-sealing watch cases.
  • Fitting a new watch strap or altering the size of a bracelet.
  • Fitting hands and dials.
  • Stock control and ordering spare parts.
  • Making replacement parts using machinery such as a watchmaker’s lathe.
  • Keeping records of repairs.
  • Providing after-sales service.
  • Communicating with clients about the work required to their timepiece
  • Offering advice and assistance to retail customers
  • Cleaning clocks

Candidate Requirements

  • Have good 3D vision and hand-eye co-ordination.
  • Be able to work with intricate and delicate tools and components.
  • Pay attention to detail.
  • Be patient.
  • Be able to concentrate.
  • Take pride in their work.
  • Be good at dealing with customers and understanding their requirements.
  • Do not mind working alone.
  • Be well organized and able to manage their workload.

Training

  • The successful applicant will receive inhouse hands-on training in watch and clock repairs
  • The successful applicant will also be enrolled on the British Horological Society distance learning course and will initially progress towards the level 3 technician grade the onwards to level 4 & 5
  • The successful applicant will also attend a number of short course held by the BHI to enhance their skills as necessary.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £6.40-£11.44 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
