Position Summary
Sheiban Jewelers is luxury jewelry store with an authorized service center for a multitude of luxury watch brands. The Watch Polisher performs the finishing and cosmetic-restoration for watch cases and bracelets. Working closely with the Watchmaker, this role uses buffing wheels, polishing motors, and hand tools to remove scratches, restore shine, and prepare finished pieces for final quality inspection. Precision, consistency, and care in handling valuable customer property are essential to this role.
This position may be structured as part-time or full-time depending on the candidate and business needs, and is well suited to someone with prior bench, jewelry-manufacturing, or precious metal-finishing experience, mechanical aptitude or a motivated entry-level candidate who can be trained on Sheiban’s finishing standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Watch Case & Bracelet Finishing & Cleaning
● Polish and refinish watch cases and metal bracelets to restore brushed, polished, or satin finishes consistent with manufacturer standards.
● Ultrasonically clean and steam watch cases and bracelets
● Coordinate with the Watchmaker on finishing timelines for watches in for service.
Quality Control & Handling
● Inspect all finished pieces for quality, symmetry, and completeness before returning them to the Watchmaker.
● Handle customer-owned jewelry and timepieces with care at all times, maintaining accurate tracking of each piece through the finishing process.
● Examine and flag any pre-existing damage, loose stones, or irregularities discovered before proceeding.
● Maintain organized workflow of items awaiting polishing, in-process, and completed.
Equipment & Shop Maintenance
● Maintain, clean, and dress buffing wheels, motors, and polishing equipment; replace wheels and compounds as needed.
● Follow proper safety procedures for the use and storage of polishing compounds and cleaning solutions
● Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation, including proper use of dust collection/ventilation equipment.
● Monitor and restock polishing supplies, compounds, and related materials; notify management when supplies run low.
Other Development Opportunities:
Opportunity to develop Watch Polishing skills including:
● Multi-level, authorized brand specific training to grow and develop skills according to manufacturer standards.
Opportunity to develop Watch Technician skills including:
● Replace watch batteries and other electronic components; test replacements for proper function.
● Service/overhaul quartz movements
● Replace watch straps, bands, and bracelets; size bracelets and straps to fit customer wrist measurements.
● Replace watch crystals, crowns, stems, and spring bars.
● Perform case and movement disassembly/reassembly for routine service tasks under Watchmaker guidance.
● Conduct water-resistance/pressure testing using a pressure tester and gasket replacement as needed.
● Work directly alongside the Watchmaker, routing more complex mechanical movement repairs to the Watchmaker while independently handling refinishing work, battery changes, and other small jobs.
Qualifications
Required
● High school diploma or equivalent.
● Strong manual dexterity and steady hands, with the ability to perform detailed, repetitive work for extended periods.
● Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing a consistent, high-quality finish.
● Ability to safely operate polishing motors, buffing wheels, and related bench equipment.
● Reliable, organized, and able to track multiple customer pieces accurately through the finishing process.
Preferred
● 1–2+ years of experience polishing fine jewelry, watches, or precious metals in a bench, manufacturing, or repair setting.
● Technical training in jewelry, metalsmithing, or a related program
● Experience with precious-metal finishing techniques.
● Prior experience in a jewelry store, watch boutique, or repair shop environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
● Primarily standing or seated bench work operating polishing motors and buffing equipment for extended periods.
● Close, detailed visual work; ability to distinguish fine surface detail and small stones/settings at close range.
● Regular exposure to polishing compounds, metal dust, and buffing debris proper PPE (eye protection, apron, respiratory protection as needed) and use of dust collection equipment required.
● Repetitive hand and arm motion; may require occasional lifting of supply materials.
● Standard retail/repair shop environment.
