San Jose is a family owned custom jewelry store specializing in collegiate and bridal jewelry. We’ve been creating custom university rings since 1985, and we pride ourselves on our ability to provide the highest quality of products and service. We are looking for a highly knowledgeable, dependable, organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team.
Jeweler’s Apprentice
Jewelers are responsible for jewelry production, repairs, cleaning/polishing, etc. The ideal candidate should have a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and be able to work as part of a team.
Schedule: Tues – Fri | 9:45am – 5:30pm & Sat | 10:45am – 3:00pm
Qualifications
- Able to set micro pavé, French pavé and bead setting
- Able to center stones and tailor prongs for a distinctive look
- Able to polish, lap and handle porosity in metal
- Basic understanding of jewelry repair techniques
- Working knowledge of stone setting and finishing
- Working knowledge of soldering tools and techniques
- Knowledge of equipment and tools used in the repair, cleaning, polishing, or reconditioning of jewelry & knowledge of proper tool care and maintenance
- Able to properly prepare, form and sharpen gravers
- Understanding and proper use of torch control techniques
- 3+ years of experience as a production line setter preferred (but we are willing to provide training)
- 3+ years of jewelry technician experience (at least 1 year as senior bench jeweler)
- Highly organized & detail-oriented
- Able to follow instructions, accept and apply constructive feedback
- Positive attitude, able to work as part of a team
- Prompt, dependable, able to meet deadlines
- Adaptable, able to adjust priorities and processes as the industry changes
- Verbal and written communication skills
- High level of manual dexterity
Responsibilities
- Ring sizing
- Polishing
- Precision filing
- Fitting coin/seal on university rings
- Perform bezel work, rebuild v-prongs, shanks, galleries, and channels
- Perform settings:
- Set round, marquise, baguette and other stones of all shapes and sizes in different types of settings
- Set shared prong, pavé, and bezel set stones
- Set flush and channel set stones
- Set clusters, trims, strips and plates
- Perform replacements such as: prongs, new heads, hinge joints, shanks (quarter, half and full)
- Perform repairs such as: chains, bracelets, earrings
- Properly use and maintain laser
- Conduct sizing (up and down) for merchandise of all sizes
- Keep workstation in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
- Follow prescribed equipment maintenance and shrinkage control procedures
