Job Title: Master Watchmaker

Location: Wayzata, MN

Reports to: Store Manager

Position Summary: The Master Watchmaker has extensive experience in servicing and repair of fine timepieces. The Master Watchmaker is responsible for providing high quality repairs, batteries, and parts, as well as technical and basic movements for a wide variety of vintage and new timepieces for Gunderson’s discerning clientele. The Master Watchmaker will be skilled and certified in precise processes and tooling required by major manufacturers.

Watchmaker

Essential Functions:

  • Work safely at all times by consistently following safe work practices
  • Service timepieces in accordance with Gunderson’s Jewelers quality standards
  • All work must be completed in an efficient and timely manner, in accordance with Gunderson’s timeframe standards
  • Service timepieces in accordance with major brands’ quality standards and processes
  • Estimate repair costs and timepiece history and value
  • Use appropriate parts, equipment and techniques to clean; replace broken, damaged, or worn parts; oil moving parts; and perform regular adjustments and maintenance on timepieces
  • Manufacture parts, as needed, using appropriate equipment and techniques
  • Test timepiece accuracy and performance, using appropriate equipment and techniques
  • Follow appropriate repair procedures to ensure proper handling and follow-through with customers’ property
  • Properly document serial and model numbers and work performed on each timepiece
  • Order parts, as needed, following established procedures
  • Maintain and update certifications with major brands according to industry and brand standards

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certificate from accredited school required
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience with all aspects of watch servicing and repair required
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience servicing and repairing luxury timepieces required
  • Certification in Rolex repairs strongly desired
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of watchmaker’s tools, machinery and equipment required
  • Fabrication skills required
  • Ability to quickly learn new procedures and processes required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/email desired
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong problem solving skills required
  • High level of ownership, accountability and initiative in solving customer requests required
  • High level of confidentiality required

Supervision of Others:

  • No supervisory responsibilities

Effort:

  • Daily lifting of up to 20 pounds required, with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds desired
  • Ability to bend/stoop, squat, twist, reach, kneel and balance required
  • Ability to concentrate on and accomplish a task or work despite distractions and interruptions required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks required
  • Ability to work under time pressures created by due dates and deadlines required
  • Ability to work with great precision with tiny objects required

Consequence of Error:

Errors in completion of position duties can result in customer dissatisfaction, which can directly or indirectly affect the entire company

Working Conditions:

This position is scheduled for 40 hours per week. Flexible hours and overtime are required during holidays, inventory, and special events

Pay: $45,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • knowledge of watchmaker’s tools, machinery and equipment: 5 years (Preferred)
