On December 6th, Sotheby’s in New York hosted the Important Watches and Clocks Auction which raked in a record $8.8 million. Watches auctioned there included some of the earliest and rarest watches known to exist, including:
- An 18k gold Patek Philippe watch fetching a total of $482,500
- A platinum Tonneau automatic minute repeating perpetual calendar wristwatch with retrograde date and phases of the moon also for $482,500
- And a pair of complementary silver-gilt enamel and pearl center seconds watches circa 1860 for $236,500
