Full Job Description

Alara is a two-store location, a store gallery, and an Atelier, also in Downtown Bozeman. We passionately seek, provide, and create aesthetically innovative fine jewelry, in an environment that blends our serious commitment to customer services and technical expertise; all tempered by a sense of humor and joy. Team Alara is made up of designers, stylists, gemologists, jewelers, and dream brokers. We deliver service in a spirit that assumes jewelry shopping should be fun, not stressful. We’re a happy bunch of team players. Kinda like a family, but without the baggage. We support each other, and we support our guests.

Our must haves in a Bench Jeweler:

•Must be able to consult with customers to design and craft custom jewelry using various CAD programs, while also understanding a customers lifestyle to know what kind of jewelry design is appropriate for them, and what should be avoided.
•Must be proficient in working in platinum alloys, including fabricating, sizing, polishing, and general repairing.
•Must be proficient in basic jewelry repairs, including precious metal jewelry repairs, prong retipping and rebuilding, channel rebuilding, clean soldering, casting cleanup, etc..
•Must be able to take a raw casting, clean it up, size if necessary, set stones, polish through multiple phases, and quality check.
•Sizing: must be able to size a ring to the exact centerline size that is specified by the front-of-house team, in gold, silver, and platinum. This includes half and full reshanks.
•Polishing: every new piece to walk out of the shop that requires a polish should have a mirror finish, while not reducing the metal on the piece, and being mindful and prongs and bezels.
•Stone setting: prong set, bead set, bezel set, and channel set round and fancy shape diamonds, sapphires, and less often softer stones, as well as bead-set and channel-set melee. There is no leniency for loose stones, crooked stones, or unevenly spaced stones (we hold ourselves to a high standard, and expect you to do the same!).
•Our shop is separate from our sales location; you must be able to clearly communicate when our repairs/custom timeline needs to be adjusted, when we need to order more supplies, and how you are feeling about how things are flowing through the shop.
•Must be well versed in using a laser-welder, but must also be able to use traditional soldering techniques, and know when is appropriate to use each skill.
•Must be able to hand-fabricate from sheet and stock (with clear instructions of what is expected of the final product)
•Must be able to pass a bench jeweler test
•3 Years Minimum Experience
