Gatwards is the oldest family jewellers in the United Kingdom. When first the founder James Gatward opened his doors as a watch and clock maker, King George II was still on the throne.
Today in 2020, Gatwards is in its 8th generation of same family ownership – though the emphasis of trading has moved from clocks towards fine diamonds and beautiful coloured gemstone jewellery. Only last year this business celebrated being winners of the ‘Family Business of the Year’ together with a family member collecting a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award‘ for sixty years’ service.
A new initiative is being taken to invest in the infrastructure within their store space which will provide a workshop space for their own in-house jobbing jeweller.
Job Role:
It is recognised that timings may well be perfect for a talented and ambitious bench jeweller to take residence within our client’s destination store location.
Their business has for quite some time seen a greater emphasis on selling and marketing collections of fine jewellery and it would be customer appreciated to have such an artisan professional close at hand and on-site.
It is felt that there is great demand for all manner of jewellery repairs, restorations, together with the obligatory ring sizing and alternations. Polishing, laser welding, stone setting /mounting, elements of jewellery manufacture – the envisaged workshop challenge is perceived to be potentially quite wide. For an experienced jeweller this may seem to be an ideal platform to pool all their career gathered skills and operate from a start-up in one prestigious location.
Requirements:
•The appointee will have to be able to demonstrate wide bench proficiency across a multitude of disciplines as always is the case, the more skills the better!
•This opportunity may well also appeal to the recently qualified Junior Jeweller craftsperson searching for a first commercial placement (with continuing learning & support from outside colleges/specialists) and can become, before that long, an evolving dream trade role.
