In early 2020 this independent retail jeweller will be looking for a Trainee Bench Jeweller, as a current long-service staff member is looking to retire! Their trading specialty is antique, vintage, and pre-owned jewellery, and their stock breadth is widely regarded throughout East Anglia. Items that they predominately bring to market are wedding rings, brooches, pendants & necklaces, gentleman’s accessories, lockets, bangles & bracelets, and earrings, together with some interesting objects.
Always with a Goldsmith on site, this business is ever required to do customer repairs and alterations together with ensuring all stock items are ready for future sale. Their thinking is now to appoint a trainee Goldsmith, ideally an individual already with a few professionally trained basics in place. In addition to this remit if the appointee’s creativity stretched beyond that of a pure jobbing jeweller and was interested in assisting the owner with jewellery photography and uploading stills to the company’s e-commerce site, that additional sphere of job role participation would certainly be very much welcomed.
A familiarity with laser welding would be an ideal skill-level starting place to enable the ability to size rings, solder, and restore jeweler items to their former glory. This is one of those trade appointments where you can constantly hone your bench-skills, such is the breadth of merchandise that you’ll become everyday accustomed to dealing with. Further training could be offered – once successfully through your initial six-month probation time frame.
