Bench Jeweler / Apprentice – Job Description
We are currently seeking an entry-level or experienced Bench Jeweler who conducts themselves professionally, has excellent time management skills and is passionate about the art of making and restoring jewelry of all sorts. This Jeweler is required to work with all types of metals as well as various setting and crafting tools to complete the job. You will be expected to deliver high quality work, maintaining industry knowledge and implement best practice standards to this role. On the job training will be provided.
This Jeweler should have a minimum of basic training and knowledge of gems, metals, basic restoration and assembly techniques, and finishes. Ideally, the most suitable candidate will also regard integrity and empathy as being extremely important, and project a professional image.
Jeweler responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
•Performing jewelry repairs as jobs are assigned by store management team
•Ensuring quality workmanship in the jewelry repairs
•Performing bench repairs as needed
•Ensuring a job is completed on time
•Protecting the investment of customers stones and preventing breakage of stones in the setting process
•Striving for ZERO defects in workmanship
•Open to coaching and taking direction
•Maintaining a clean and organized shop
•Keep maintenance of shop equipment
•Efficient in casting and preparation of custom jewelry
Jeweler’s job duties included but are not limited to:
•Ring Sizing
•Stone setting & tightening
•Chain repairs
•Cleaning and polishing jewelry
•Rhodium finishing
•Prong work
•Restoring old or broken pieces
•Using the following tools to complete a job:
•Lasers
•Microscopes
•Grading tools
Jeweler’s Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Some trade or vocational school programs accepted
1-3 years previous bench jeweler experience is a plus but not required
