HERFF JONES, Bench Jeweler – Warwick, RI

Job Summary:

Efficiently operates the Bench Jeweler Station fabricating and repairing jewelry such as rings, pendants, bracelets and lockets.

Specific Responsibilities:

•Operates soldering and brazing machines that braze, solder, or spot weld fabricated jewelry products or components.
•Observes meters, gauges, and machine to ensure the soldering or brazing process meets specifications.
•Fills holes, indentations, and seams of fabricated metal rings, using solder and gas torch:
•Prepares areas to be soldered, using hand and powered tools, such as hacksaw, chisel, hammer, grinder, and wire brush.
•Efficiently operates an oxyacetylene torch for all the soldering and brazing jobs done.
•Repairs existing jewelry mountings to reposition jewels or adjust mounting.
•Performs related tasks, such as cutting and grinding.
•Grinds, preheats, positions and clamps together ring parts preparatory to soldering.
•Performs any repairs need on the rings as directed by the Area Manager.
•Selects equipment by applying knowledge of geometry and physical properties of welding, soldering and brazing techniques.
•Positions, aligns, and fits components together.
•Applies a specified flux to areas on the ring that require soldering.
•Visually examines soldering for adherence to specifications.
•Repairs broken or cracked metal objects, fills holes, and builds up metal parts.
•Cleans or degrease parts, using wire brush, portable grinder, or a chemical bath.
•Responsible for quality control. Making adjustments as necessary to produce rings within specifications.
•Operates within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
•Responsible for reading and identifying information located on the repair forms.

Minimum Qualifications:

•Experience from a technical school, a full apprenticeship program, or completion of an in-company training program is plus.
•High school diploma/ GED equivalent is suggested.
•May be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations
•Minimum one year of experience as a Solder.
•Must be able to do the above responsibilities in a safe, clean and timely manner.
•Knowledgeable of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods
•Knowledgeable of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to use for the soldering process.
•Strong communication skills
•Strong multi-tasking skills
•Strong organizational skills
•Ability to read and write in English is required.

•Ability to establish priorities and work independently.

Physical Demands:

•Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of hand tools.
•Near Vision: The ability to see details at close range.
•Control Precision: The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to get to the exact positions.
•Good hand-eye coordination
•Arm-Hand Steadiness: The ability to keep the hand and arm steady.
•Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
