Watchmaker Greubel Forsey has crafted a beautiful see-through watch entirely encased in sapphire crystal. Making a sapphire crystal case is not easy either, it takes 900 hours of machining on just the case alone. Sapphire crystal is one of the hardest materials on earth, second only to diamond and its ultra-transparent properties naturally make it the best candidate for luxury watches. Even the smartphone makers have considered putting it on their display panels. However, due to its rarity and possible impact on the environment, sapphire crystal has not led to large-scale production so far and it is definitely not changing with the launch of this Double Balancier Sapphire of which only 11 pieces will be made.
If this watch got your attention and you were about to run and grab one before all of the 11 pieces were sold-out, well, you can definitely slow your pace down – it costs a whopping $ 695,000. The watch, which has been inspired by light, is a breathtaking attention to detail.
Fantastic article! Who would have thought an entire watch should be made of sapphire crystal.
Just wanted to say you’re killing it. I’d like to get in contact with you. I have plenty of Rolex vintages pictures I can send your way should you ever be in need.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

;A watch is only as good as the case around it ; clearly a great product !no pun intended. and with a movement like that who would not want it to be viewed ? what a nice piece the movement and the case work as one, congrats to the designer!
