BENCH JEWELER AT EMILY AMEY JEWELRY
We are a small (woman owned and run) handmade fine jewelry company. We specialize in one of a kind pieces, using unique stones and precious metals.
This position is a tremendous opportunity for an emerging designer to get a taste of what it takes to run a successful brand. You will work very closely with the owner and studio manager, learning every facet of the business. No two days will be exactly the same, and you will likely wear lots of different hats. From production, to shipping to web updates to marketing. So many tips and tricks of the trade, it’s almost like taking a masterclass in business as well as a production jeweler job.
We are looking for a part time production jeweler (starting 2 days a week.) This role requires proficiency in all aspects of jewelry production. In terms of bench work, you will likely start off with polishing and clean-up work. But quickly move up to assembly, soldering, stone setting. You will be bench tested for this position.
Requirements for this candidate:
•Basic metalsmithing proficiency
•Strong ability to manipulate hand tools: including the use of a flex shaft, polishing wheel, soldering torch, saws and pliers
•Strong attention to detail
•Reliability (attendance, timeliness, follow-through)
•A passionate and knowledgeable interest in stones
•The ability to take direction, and ask questions if needed
•Strong organization, time management and prioritization skills
•The ability to multi-task and take on a variety of different roles as situations arise.
Experience and Education:
•High School diploma or equivalent required.
•College or Trade school diploma a big plus
•Bench Jeweler or employment in Jewelry industry a big plus.
We are willing to train on many aspects of the industry but prior experience or education is preferred. Please send us a portfolio of past work if possible.
The ideal candidate will have:
•The ability to bezel set stones
•Excel and Photoshop skills
•The desire to work closely with the studio manager to assist with production management.
This includes:
•Working with outside vendors for sourcing materials
•Tracking and ordering supplies as needed
•Quality control (of castings and stones)
Compensation starts at $20/hr.
Reimbursement of Metro North tickets available if commuting from NYC.
