Job Description Overview – Bench Jeweler
The Creative Fringe is seeking a bench jeweler for their retail store in Grand Haven MI. This is a great opportunity to work in a creative environment surrounded by great people and quality supplies. The Creative Fringe provides artisan made jewelry and components, quality repair and custom design services, as well as a wide range of classes and supplies all in one location. Reporting to the store owner, the bench jeweler will perform and oversee all aspects of jewelry fabrication and repair in the store. You will use your talent to design one-of-a-kind jewelry for the store and customers as well as restore jewelry to its original design. The candidate must be organized, detail-oriented, and an excellent problem-solver, who is able to produce quality repairs and custom work in a timely fashion. The candidate will also be required to support the growth of the business by providing great customer service and sales assistance as well as developing new designs for the store. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach classes.
Job Responsibilities
Chain and clasp repair
Polishing and general finishing
Minor ring repair & sizing
Knotting, stringing and other jewelry repairs
Torch soldering and fabrication
Creating stone mounts and setting stones, mainly semiprecious
Help to grow potential sales through custom design skills and working with customers
Creation of new pieces using informed direction based on trends, marketing strategy, product assortment or teaching purposes
Help to maximize potential sales through effective customer service and sales skills
Teach metalsmithing and beading classes to beginning through advanced students
Follow all proper store procedures, such as opening and closing and cash handling
Demonstrate strong leadership skills and promote The Creative Fringe philosophy of exceptional customer service and creating and maintaining a positive environment for customers and team members, filled with respect and trust
Required Skills
1-3 years bench jeweler or relevant experience in jewelry craftsmanship or metalsmithing degree
Detailed with excellent organizational and project management skills
Excellent customer service and sales skills
Has a high standard for quality work
Proactive and creative problem solving ability
Willing to work retail hours, including nights, weekends and certain holidays
Must be a team player willing to teach and learn and help grow the business
Proficient with computers and word processing software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience using a cash register and point of sales software
