About Us
The Pocket Watch Guy is a boutique sales and restoration house based in West Los Angeles, specializing in the curation and repair of fine antique American pocket watches. We focus on the “Golden Age” of American horology, specifically timepieces from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Our mission is to preserve history through meticulous craftsmanship, ensuring every piece that leaves our shop is backed by our personal guarantee of quality and precision.
The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Watchmaker / Horologist with a deep passion for mechanical movements. Unlike modern high-volume service centers, our work requires a “slow and right” approach. You will be responsible for either the clean, oil and adjustment for accuracy or restoration of vintage and antique timepieces.

Key Responsibilities
- Full Service & Restoration: Perform complete overhauls (cleaning, oiling, and adjusting) on manual-wind mechanical movements, specifically American brands such as Hamilton, Elgin, Waltham, and Illinois.
- Diagnostics: Identify issues with balance staffs, hairsprings, escapements, and mainsprings in 100+ year-old movements.
- Quality Control: Ensure every watch meets our strict timing and power reserve standards before being listed for sale or returned to a client.
- Preservation: Maintain the historical integrity of each piece, including dial care and case cleaning.
Requirements
- Experience: Proven experience at the bench specifically working and sourcing vintage mechanical parts and movements as needed. (Pocket watch experience is highly preferred).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with ultrasonic cleaning, timing machines (Timegrapher), and traditional watchmaking hand tools.
- Attention to Detail: A “perfectionist” mindset.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Railroad Grade standards and American movement grades/calibers.
- Location: This is a remote-only position. Preference will be given to candidates located in the Greater Los Angeles area to facilitate the secure hand-off and pick-up of timepieces.
Why Join Us?
- Work on some of the finest examples of American engineering.
- Flexible Compensation: Pay is TBD based on technical expertise, the time required for specific restorations, and daily output (watches per day)
Pay: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
Work Location: Remote
