The Merchant Marketing Director develops and carries out cohesive marketing strategies that support seasonal/annual sales and EBIT goals. The Merchant Marketing Director will have direct resposibility for a DMM/GMM pyramid. This position builds successful marketing campaigns, collaborating closely with Marketing, Merchant,Digital and Planning teams, and cross functional marketing teams to contribute to annual calendar strategy development.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Execute seasonal marketing strategies for each business category that supports and align the priorities of the Buying Office, our Vendor partners and the Macy’s brand
  • Partner with DMM to plan out advertising strategy and content by month, selecting ad candidates submitted by the Merchant teams
  • Partner with Fine Jewelry Business Director and maintain a positive, collaborative relationship in order to drive sales across the division
  • Act as a liaison between the Buying offices and the various Marketing teams, ensuring all strict advertising deadlines are met and buying strategies are appropriately executed in print
  • Work with the Digital team to ensure all Store and MCOM marketing strategies are aligned
  • Analyze sales results/trends to identify and pitch new business opportunities
  • Contribute to seasonal marketing strategies with merchant buying teams to drive sales
  • Partner with Marketing to create proposals and deliver strategic marketing presentations for key vendors
  • Compile and configure layouts for storewide direct mailers and ROPs
  • Prepare analysis by event and present at weekly GMM style outs
  • Negotiate Fine Jewelry co-op with vendors each season
  • Maintain, coordinate and expedite ad proofs, merchandise for photo shoots and sign-offs for all advertisements
  • Own the Promotional Calendar for Fine Jewelry; meet all on sale/off sale requirements & lay out the Fine
  • Jewelry POS strategy by event
  • Manage, coordinate and present the Jewelry National Broadcast items
  • Manage all POS price changes for Fine Jewelry/Watches
  • Work with Buyers to ensure that pricing strategy is executed and maintained appropriately
    – Interview, train, mentor and manage staff to create a cohesive team and productive environment
  • Sign-off all Magazine and ROP ads, manage the buying teams to ensure all Direct Mail/Insert ads are signed off accurately and by the deadlines
  • Manage monthly coupon exclusions for MIO
  • Manage the event recaps/item selling for each event, deliver ad recap to DMM after each event

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • 2-4 years of prior retail marketing, buying, or planning experience
  • Multiple functions & business interactions

Communication Skills:

  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to interact with all levels in the organization
  • Ability to build and foster good relationships
  • Able to build partnerships and teams across functional units

Reasoning Ability:

  • Problem solver with analytical reasoning skills and ability to identify emerging opportunities
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, handling multiple projects/plans

Other Skills:

  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Demonstrates creativity in idea generation and project execution
  • Ability to Influence others to complete weekly advertising task/projects
  • Must be able to meet deadline and maintain priorities in a consistently changing environment
  • Must be organized
  • Ability to form partnerships with Merchant, Planning, Marketing and Support Teams
  • Familiarity with Fed systems and MAS
  • Comfortable in high profile settings with upper management
